Hello Famiglia! Below you will find tasting notes, technical information, food pairings, and aging recommendations for the wines in your latest allocation, as well as previous ones.

Fall 2022 Wines

2020 Trovato Vineyard Chardonnay

Picked early from our Yamhill-Carlton estate in order to retain acidity, moderate alcohol, and restrained fruit, we present the 2020 iteration of our Trovato Chardonnay. Aromas of lemon meringue and green pear are supplemented by delicate floral notes of chamomile and lilac. The palate is endlessly fresh, offering juicy lime pulp and a lasting acid-driven finish.

Drink now through 2027 | Pair with a Shrimp Pasta with Preserved Lemon

12.5 % abv | 10 months in 95% neutral, 5% new French oak barrels | 642 cases produced

2020 Piano Piano Chardonnay

The Piano Piano Chardonnay: Trovato Chardonnay’s counterpart! Born of the same lot of wine, we separate out four barrels and allow the wine to remain in barrel almost twice as long. 18 months in barrel gives this wine more secondary notes in comparison to the more fruit-driven Trovato Chardonnay. Blanched almond, coconut, and dried grass accompany assorted citrus and green apple. The palate is full bodied with flavors of vanilla, lemon, and creme brulee, while retaining elegant texture and a balanced tangy finish.

Drink now through 2027 | Pair with a Coconut-Miso Salmon Curry

12.7 % abv | 18  months in neutral French oak barrels | 16 months on lees with batonnage | 104 cases produced

2019 Block 10 Pinot Noir

Sourced from a single three-acre block of Pommard clone Pinot Noir, the Block 10 is a pure example of why Pommard is the most widely plant clone in Oregon! Respected for good color, intense fruit, notable spice and a luxurious mouthfeel, this wine fills your glass with notes of black cherry, plum, and cinnamon stick. Lifted aromas of river rocks and cedarwood. The palate gives even more plum, plus tart cherry, sweet baking spice, and rose petal. This unique and undeniably pretty wine balances fine grained tannins with refreshing acidity, and a lengthy anise-tinged finish.

Drink now through 2031 | Pair with Five-Spice Duck Breast and Blackberries

13.3 % abv | 10 months in 60% neutral, 20% two-year, 20% one year old French oak barrels | 100% destemmed, native fermentation, 100% Free-Run juice, unfined | 151 cases produced

2020 Block 10 Pinot Noir

Our three-acre block of one of the first Pinot Noir clones planted in Oregon (Pommard) produces a wine of extreme finesse and delicacy. The hot 2020 vintage has given us a much more rustic expression of this clone in comparison to the cool 2019 vintage. Opening with dark cherries and pomegranate the nose also offers herbacious tones of savoury and tarragon, plus fresh wood chips and mesquite. Its palate presents more pomegranate, plus mouth coating tannins, and a savory and dry finish.

Drink now through 2024 | Pair with a classic Beef Bourguignon

13.5 % abv | 10 months in neutral French oak barrels | 100% destemmed, native fermentation, 100% Free-Run juice, unfined | 100 cases produced

2019 Wadenswil Pinot Noir

Our two acre block of one of the original Pinot Noir clones planted in the Willamette Valley produces a generous wine of remarkable complexity! This 2019 Wadenswil is the inaugural offering of this single-clone bottling. Filling your glass with mixed berries (blueberry, cranberry, black currant) and perfumed notes of citrus black tea. The fruit here is lush and juicy, balanced by intriguing aromas of red apple sin and graphite. In the mouth you’ll find more juicy, mixed-berry flavors, moderate acidity, silky tannins, and a lifted finish.

Drink now through 2031 | Pair with a Pasta with Turkish-style Lamb & Eggplant

13.2 % abv | 10 months in 50% neutral, 30% two-year, 20% one year old French oak barrels | 100% destemmed, native fermentation, 100% Free-Run juice, unfined | 151 cases produced

2020 Wadenswil Pinot Noir

The 2020 iteration of our Wadenswil Pinot Noir is heartier and more robust than its 2019 counterpart – as befits the warmer vintage. Blackberry and blueberry are accompanied by lifted herbal tones of eucalyptus and rosemary. As with many of the wines from our Yamhill-Carlton estate, the 2020 Wadenswil also exhibits pronounced minerality – like crushed granite. The mouthfeel here is lush and full, and the tannins are accordingly bold yet sweet.

Drink now through 2024 | Pair with a classic roast lamb chop with rosemary & garlic

13.9 % abv | 10 months in one year old French oak barrels | 100% destemmed, native fermentation, 100% Free-Run juice, unfined | 100 cases produced

2019 L’Altra Pinot Noir

*Red’s Only Members*

A true cherry color in glass, the 2019 iteration of our L’Altra is ripe with notes of juicy Italian plums, cranberry sauce, and hints of tangerine. Following its fruity beginnings then, is a more rustic backbone of woodsy cedar and fresh rosemary. While young, the palate shows off a wonderfully pure expression of fruit, though never cloying – its notes of luscious rainier cherries, blueberry, and soft cinnamon are livened by a powerful acidity and evolving yet vibrant finish. This wine would find a happy home next to a cedar plank salmon, or a lavish spread of Mediterranean dishes. Representative of its cooler vintage, the 2019 L’Altra demonstrates tremendous ageability.

Drink now through 2030.

2018 L’Altra Pinot Noir

*Red’s Only Members*

On the nose, this 60% Pommard, 40% Dijon clones Pinot displays fresh aromas of cranberry, crushed strawberries, and hints of violet. Bright and vibrant in the mouth, the finish brings an extra layer of dusty spice, while the fine, dry tannins will make your taste buds salivate. Graceful while stern, this wine is a classic example of a Dundee Hills Pinot Noir.

Spring 2023 Wines

2022 Rosé Frizzanté

We started making sparkling wines in 2017, with a Brut Rosé, followed two years later by a Blanc de Blanc and Blanc de Noir. While methode champenoise has been the cornerstone of our sparkling program, it is a practice in patience and takes a minimum of 3 years before they are ready to be released. Enter frizzante! A delightful, gently sparkling wine to be enjoyed young, while we await the long term aging of our methode champenoise wines. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, we picked and pressed the fruit early to retain a delicate rose hue, graceful red fruit notes, and refreshing acidity. The wine opens with notes of rainier cherries, fresh roses, and lime leaf. The palate offers flavors of raspberry and tangerine, soft bubbles, and just a touch of sweetness balanced by its ample acidity.

Pair with crudités with garlicky aioli, and bleu cheeses.

Drink 2023-2025 | 12.9% | 230 cases produced | Force Carbonated

2022 Melon de Bourgogne

We produced a Melon de Bourgogne for the first time in 2021, after happening upon an opportunity to purchase fruit from Golden Leaf Vineyard in southern Oregon’s beautiful Umpqua Valley. We jumped at the chance to work with this Loire Valley varietal, loved the resulting wine, and are happy to bring it back for another vintage! A slightly cooler year than 2021, the 2022 iteration of this wine brings a host of green fruits. The glass is brimming with granny smith apple, lime zest, honeydew, and pear. While fruit forward, the Melon also brings an element of salinity, akin to oyster shell or sea breeze. Flavors of pineapple, lime curd, and kumquat round out a bright and juicy palate. Its lean and energetic acidity promises to pair well with seafood and shellfish of all kinds.

Pair with oysters on the half shell and a mignonette sauce, or a classic mussels & frites.

Drink 2023-2026 | 12.8% | 299 cases produced | 5 months in stainless steel, sur lie

2021 La Linea Pinot Noir

Consistently our most delicate bottling, the 2021 version of La Linea does not deviate, despite the record breaking heat of the 2021 vintage. A blend of 75% Pommard Clone, 25% Dijon 115 –  the nose is full of notes of sour cherry and italian plums, complemented by hints of violets, fresh nutmeg, and dried ginger. While the wine calls for another few years to fully express itself, the palate is already presenting a bouquet of very pretty and graceful flavors. Stewed strawberries, rose petals, and raspberries followed by soft and dusty tannins and a refreshing acidity.

Pair with an herbed salmon & goat cheese salad over Israeli couscous.

Drink 2025-2032 | 13.5% | 256 cases produced | 10 months in 25% new French oak | 100% free-run juice

2021 Gina Pinot Noir

Named for Giorgio’s aunt Gina, a close relative who along with his mother, gave him a fond appreciation for food and family gatherings.

The newest iteration of this barrel-select is full of fresh aromas of blueberry and blackberry – very ripe fruited, as befits the warm 2021 vintage. Following this are delicate hints of mint and red apple skin. The mouthfeel is big and luscious and offers sweet tannins balanced by a delightfully prickly acidity and a tangy marionberry finish.

Pair with Lemongrass Coq au Vin.

Drink 2023-2029 | 13.9% | 450 cases produced | 10 months in neutral French oak | 100% free-run juice

2021 Pietro Pinot Noir

The 2021 vintage gave us a long, warmer than average summer – resulting in exceedingly friendly, ripe fruited Pinot Noirs. Though still young, the 2021 Pietro already offers an aromatic nose and textured palate to match. While there is an abundance of ripe black fruit notes, there are also plenty of leaner herbacious and mineral-tinged notes to create balance. The finish brings more juicyness alongside sweet tannins…a wine that promises to please universally.

Pair with Lamb Shank Tagine with Dates & Pomegranate.

Drink 2023-2029 | 13.9% | 1165 cases produced | 10 months in 25% new french oak, 75% neutral

2019 Vincenzo Pinot Noir

A quintessential expression of the Dundee Hills, with aromas of black cherry, strawberry, and balsa wood. The palate is generous, offering rich black plum, fresh sage, and eucalyptus. True to its vintage, the tannins are firm and there is ample acidity. A powerful wine, from a classic Oregon vintage, this will continue to evolve beautifully over the course of the next 10 years.

Pair with Catalan-Style Braised Short Ribs

Drink 2024-2034 | 12.5% | 126 cases produced | 10 months in 60% neutral, 40% new French oak barrels | 100% free run juice

Fall 2023 Wines

2022 Tocai Friulano

The 2022 vintage of Tocai Friulano is a fresh spring breeze in liquid form. The glass opens with bright aromas of kiwi, fresh grass, and gooseberry, reminding us of Sauvignon Blanc (the Friulano grape, also known as Sauvignon Vert, was historically mistaken as Sauvignon Blanc, despite no varietal relation). In place of Sauvignon Blanc’s intense and riper-fruited flavors, our Friulano offers more delicate, floral-tinged notes and a more rounded, lush mouthfeel. The palate brings starfruit, tangerine, and slate, with a very dry but mouth watering finish. It’s a wine that promises to pair as harmoniously with summer picnic fare as it will with a winter holiday feast.

Pair with dishes like this Shrimp Coconut Curry or this Haitian Spiced Steelhead Trout

Drink 2023-2026 | 12.9% | 200 cases produced | Aged 6 months in 50% neutral French oak, 50% stainless steel

2021 Piano Piano Chardonnay

The 2021 Piano Piano Chardonnay is a sensorial delight. It opens with evocative aromas of green pineapple, lavender, and pulpy calamansi followed by nostalgic whisps of dried orange slices. Honey-almond meal and honeycomb add a sweet, inviting allure, while lime zest, pomelo, and apricot add freshness and even more layers of complexity.

On the palate, dandelion and golden delicious apples dance with yellow pear, bright acidity, and a full body. The wine’s elegant texture and mineral-saline finish give it a sophisticated touch, finishing with more structured notes of acacia and meringue that evolve luxuriously.

Pair with dishes like this Zuni Roast Chicken & Fennel Panzanella or a classic Trout Amandine

 Drink 2023-2033 | 13.5% | 101 cases produced | Aged 18 months in neutral French oak

2021 L’Altra Pinot Noir

Our L’Altra Pinot Noir is a snapshot of our Dundee Hills vineyard, beautifully representing the self rooted, 20-30 year old vines of our Furioso estate. The blend of Pommard and Dijon clones offer a wonderfully pure expression of Dundee Hills Pinot Noir – opening the glass with notes of cranberry, blueberry, and a dusty hillside in the summer. You’ll catch a whiff of fresh roses, fruit leather, and a subtle undertone of birch tree.

On the palate, there’s a  zesty combo of orange peel, wild blackberry, and cherry cola with a dash of sweet spice. The body is lush and velvety, characteristic of its warmer vintage, while the lasting acidity manages to keep the experience bright and fresh.

Pair with dishes like this Squash stuffed with Wild Mushrooms & Quinoa or this Orecchiette with Butternut Squash, Cinnamon & Mint

Drink 2023-2033 | 13.5% | 429 cases produced | 10 months in 25% new French oak

2021 Block 10 Pinot Noir

Constructed from a single block of Pommard clone Pinot Noir at our Yamhill Carlton estate Trovato Vineyard, the 2021 Block 10 Pinot Noir is a sensorial delight. It opens with the inviting aroma of ripe black cherries, Italian plum, a touch of vanilla oak, and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, stemmy tannins provide structure, while black olives, black currants, and a finishing note of choke cherry add layers of complexity. This wine is a well-balanced masterpiece, with each sip unveiling a new dimension of flavor to savor. One of the first two clones planted in the Willamette Valley, Pommard clone possesses a unique ability to reflect vineyard and vintage specific nuances, giving the Block 10 Pinot Noir a pure expression of Trovato’s terroir.

Pair with dishes like this Osso Bucco with Citrus Gremolata

Drink 2024-2036 | 13.9% | 150 cases produced | 10 months in 15% new French oak, 85% neutral French oak

2021 Wadenswil Pinot Noir

The 2021 Wadenswil Pinot Noir offers a unique and intriguing bouquet, characteristic of the Wadenswil clone of Pinot Noir. The nose introduces vibrant notes of blood orange and sanguine elements, alongside a heady allure of crushed herbs and cured olives. Hints of licorice, white pepper, and the sweetness of blackberry and stewed strawberry create a harmoniously complex symphony.

On the palate, this wine continues to captivate, showcasing the unique character of the clone through the lens of Trovato Vineyard’s inherent terroir. Mulberry takes the lead, joined by the earthy essence of humus and the subtle kick of black pepper. Red apple skin adds a touch of brightness, while sweet yet chewy tannins provide a pleasing texture, all balanced by a tangy acidity that keeps you engaged.

Drink 2024-2036 | 13.9% | 150 cases produced | 10 months in neutral French oak

2021 Anna Pinot Noir

The 2021 Anna Pinot Noir is a captivating wine that tells our unique story through its aromas and flavors. Named after Giorgio’s mother Anna Trovato, the matriarch of the Furioso famiglia – it is a wine intended to be structured, luxurious, effusive, and generous. On the nose, it offers an intriguing blend of brambleberry, the subtle earthiness of graphite, the delicate fragrance of dried rose petals, and a touch of potpourri. Allspice and dark fruits join in, creating an enticing aromatic tapestry.

The palate is a revelation, with fine-grained enveloping tannins that provide a velvety texture. Violets and blueberry notes add floral and fruity dimensions, while raspberry offers a bright burst of flavor. The finish is a memorable one, with hints of tree bark and an inky depth, all underscored by a lasting acidity that keeps the experience fresh, while the well-integrated oak adds depth without overpowering.

Introducing the inaugural vintage of our Yamhill-Carlton estate Blanc de Blanc! 100% Chardonnay produced par méthode champenoise, with 33 months en tirage has given us a stunning and elegant sparkling wine. Bright notes of pomelo, granny smith, and white flowers are followed by hints of fresh sage and pastry crust. 2019 Piano Piano Chardonnay

A bright, crystalline lemon in the glass, this second edition of our over-vintaged Chardonnay is here to prove what extra patience and time in barrel can do for this noble grape. For this reserve wine, we start by selecting four neutral oak barrels of Trovato Vineyard Chardonnay and then allow them to age longer than our traditional Chardonnay: 18 months instead of 10. The result is a stunningly complex wine that still maintains plenty of vibrancy. The nose offers an alluring bouquet of lime flower, white peach, and crisp asian pear, followed by some more mature aromas of honeysuckle, granite, and custard. The palate is equally complex – delivering walnut, honey, and lemon tart. There’s a lasting and fresh lemon-lime finish, supported by captivating acidity.

Drink now through 2030 | Pair with Lobster & Mushroom Risotto | 12.3 % abv | 18 months in 75% neutral French oak, 25% one-year old barrels | 100 cases produced

2019 Trovato Chardonnay

Here is another wine coming from our Trovato Vineyard in Yamhill to your glass. For the second edition of this wine, we decided to add another layer of complexity by fermenting and aging the wine in some premium quality new French oak barrels; as well as some older, neutral barrels. We also included the use of a unique new barrel made of 50% French oak staves and 50% acacia wood staves. The result will be obvious to those of you familiar to our previous Chardonnay releases.

Aromatically, the wine is bursting with aromas of toasted bread and vanilla, but also Asian pear and notes of lime peel. In the mouth, it displays a great minerality with an elegant and seamless structure.

2022 Vintage Reflections from Dom

Winter fell in love with Oregon in 2022, and seemed to never want to let go. The frost event in early April damaged buds emerging from dormancy and created chaos in the vineyard. Panicking winemakers not only had to worry about the possibility of an unripe crop but also of a small crop. But summer finally arrived, and like winter, it decided to linger in the Willamette Valley longer than usual. Although some sites (like our Dundee estate Furioso Vineyard) reported a low yield, our Trovato Vineyard in Yamhill (higher elevation and a cooler macroclimate meant later budbreak) produced a bumper crop. In fact, 2022 was our biggest harvest at Furioso ever, with 89 tons! The warm and sunny October days allowed our fruit to achieve their full ripeness and all the grapes were safely in the winery before rain finally arrived third week of October.

Fast forwarding over the long days of harvest cellar work with its endless series of pump-overs, punch-down, pressing and barreling down, and here we are now entering a new spring, and a new growing season.

Some of our 2022 wines are already in the bottle (some of them even making their way to your cellar as we speak!) but our Chardonnays and Pinots are still tucked away, enjoying a few more months in barrel before being bottled this August. In February, we bottled the next generation of our sparkling program: 2022 Brut Rosé and Blanc de Blanc. You won’t see these released until at least 2025, but rest assured it will be worth the wait.

Tasting our 2022 wines in barrel, I am impressed with the quality of a vintage which was originally deemed as challenging. I am seeing lots of similarities with 2021: the Pinots are showing rich opulent fruit, and the Chardonnays are vibrant with riper aromatics. Like 2021, it will certainly be a vintage that can be enjoyed in its youth.

As for 2023, the vines right now are still dormant; and that is a good thing as the weather forecast is still reporting nearly freezing temperatures (feels like a repeat of 2022 in a way). Please spare a thought for our Viticulturist Shea and Cellar Master Alex who will be battling those wintery conditions to finish tying-down the canes this week.

And finally, we hope you love this selection of newly released wines! The frizzanté is the newest addition to our portfolio, made in the style of prosecco rosé, intended to be lightly sparkling and enjoyed this year. While we recommend another couple years of aging (at least) for the 2019 Vincenzo and 2021 La Linea, we find that the Melon, Gina, and Pietro are all drinking wonderfully now. And if you’re asking yourself, “what happened to Friulano?” or, “I hope they made rosé this year!” – fret not. They will be released later this spring, after a bit more time in bottle, and our Famiglia will be the first to know.

2021 La Famiglia Pinot Noir

Beginning in the spectacular 2017 vintage, we hand selected a singular barrel to bottle as our inaugural ‘La Famiglia’ – creating a wine that has always been, and will continue to be, a club exclusive wine. Our Famiglia has grown over the years, and what was once a single barrel bottling is now a cuvée representing four of our favorite barrels. We regretably could not produce this wine in 2020, so the 2021 vintage is the first release since the 2019!

Packing a punch of complexity on the nose, your glass is filled with intricately perfumed notes of red currant, orange peel, cardamom and tree moss. In the mouth, tones of red apple skin, strawberry-rhubarb, and blood orange shine through a velvety structure and sweet tannins.

2019 Pietro Pinot Noir

This is our second release of this wine from the Trovato Vineyard, our estate property in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. This Pinot Noir is a blend of multiple blocks throughout vineyard, representing a diversity of clones – from the classic Pommard and Dijon clones, to newly selected cultivars such as Mt. Eden and Wädenswil. The diversity of Pinot Noir clones used creates a complex wine which is stylistically different from the Pinot Noirs produced on our estate Furioso Vineyard in Dundee.

On the nose, this wine has hints of black cherry, graphite, and tarragon, as befits Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir. In the mouth, elements of cranberry and orange evoke thoughts of fresh-caught grilled Pacific Northwest salmon. As with all Furioso wines, this bottle was made to be cellared and will continue to evolve in the bottle for up to 10 years.

SPRING 2024 WINES

2023-Furioso-White-Pinot-Noir

2023 White Pinot Noir

The 2023 vintage was one of our most bountiful yet. A bumper crop of beautiful fruit this year gave us space to create several new and experimental offerings. The 2023 White Pinot is one of these. Delightfully perfumed, with pretty aromas of starfruit, green pear, and fresh rose. The palate is equally joyful, evoking a peach white tea and featuring zingy flavors of lime pulp, peach skin and wildflowers. The texture is compelling, with a lasting finish.

2021-Chardonnay-Furioso-Vineyard

2021 Furioso Vineyard Chardonnay

The 2021 vintage of our Dundee estate Chardonnay is graceful and lively. The nose opens with fresh aromas of apricot, yellow pear, and meyer lemon alongside warmer notes of quince, cinnamon, and birch. The palate offers a pleasant viscosity, some lean minerality, and plenty of finesse and balance. Flavors of green apple, grapefruit, lemon zest, and flint place this chardonnay stylistically akin to Chablis or Pouilly-Fuisse, compared to our more Puligny-Montrachet inspired Yamhill-Carlton Chardonnays.

2019 Gina Pinot Noir

2019 Gina Pinot Noir

Named for our owner’s aunt, a close relative who along with Giorgio’s mother, gave him a fond appreciation for food and family gatherings. The second vintage of this wine, the 2019 Gina Pinot Noir presents the more elegant, delicate side of our Yamhill-Carlton estate. Crafted with one hundred percent free run juice and minimal new oak, Gina offers aromas of wild blackberry, violets, crunchy leaves, and sweet peppercorns. A refined palate with lush tannins shows notes of black plum, forest floor, orange peel, and plenty of juicy acidity.

2021 La Famiglia Pinot Noir

2019 anna pinot noir

 2019 Anna Pinot Noir

This small, seven-barrel cuvée, named in honor of proprietor Giorgio Furioso’s mother, is meant to represent the more structured side of our Trovato Vineyard in Yamhill. This wine is 100% free-run juice and was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 40% new and 60% one-year old – resulting in a bolder, more complex wine. On the nose the wine displays aromas of blueberry, pomegranate, hay and bay leaf. To accompany this are whiffs of dusty spice, dried rose, and jasmine-green tea. In the mouth, Anna offers broad, chalky tannins plus flavors of cranberry and sour cherry. The juicy structure builds up to a dry finish, with lingering hints of black tea and red apple.

96, Intl Wine Report – “The 2019 Anna Pinot Noir from Furioso is a seven-barrel cuvée named in honor of the owner’s mother, Anna. It’s aged in 40% new French oak for one year and boasts notes of potpourri, boysenberry, crushed pomegranate seeds, wet autumn leaves, cedary herbs, and dusty road. Smooth tannins flow across the tongue alongside elegant acidity. It finishes with an earthy undertone that doesn’t overpower the lovely blue-fruit aspect on the mid-palate. 2023-2033.” – Jeremy Young

2019 La Linea Pinot Noir

2019 La Linea Pinot Noir

The brilliantly refreshing 2019 La Linea is the flagship wine from our old vine Dundee Hills estate vineyard. Rich and heady notes of earthy dark cherries, stewed strawberries, and potters clay greet you. This is a classic Dundee Hills Pinot Noir, from a classic Oregon vintage. Blood orange and bubblegum mingle with crunchy leaves, mossy hillside, and dried tobacco. The palate brings flavors of blueberry and fresh rosemary, followed by bitter orange with enveloping tannins and well integrated acidity.
