2017 La Linea Pinot Noir

Every attention to detail has been given crafting our flagship wine, La Linea Pinot Noir. Using the best grapes from the best blocks in our estate vineyard, we carefully guided the fermentation process to extract the most delicate tannins and preserve the complex aromatics of the fruit. The fruit was fermented in a small 2-t fermenter and the resulting wine was subsequently aged for 10 months in some of the most prestigious French oak barrels available before being bottled.

Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon

“This has a savory twist to the nose with earthy elements, woody notes, roses and stony minerally nuances, across bright red cherries. The palate has a neatly defined feel with very centrally focused fruit, in elegant style. Drink or hold.” 93pts | JamesSuckling.com

Dominique Mahé, our Winemaker:

A little shy with its look, this wine will surprise you with its perfumy complex nose of fresh raspberry, violet and sweet spice. In the mouth, the wine is gracefully expressive with cherry and blueberry flavors paired with some elusive notes of blood orange. The palate displays a delicate structure and delivers extremely polished tannins. This 2017 version of La Linea is really showing its feminine streak here. With every sip of this wine, Winemaker Dom Mahé thinks of Lauren Bacall: Classy and elegant, but with those penetrating piercing eyes, not so different to the vibrant intensity that this wine has to offer. Enjoy with a Porcini mushroom risotto or a grilled pork tenderloin with plums. It will also work well as a sipping wine while watching “The Big Sleep”.

2017 L’Altra Pinot Noir

Our 2017 L’Altra is the true expression of our estate Furioso Vineyard here in Dundee. Picked at the optimum balance of sugar and acid, the grapes from these old Pinot noir vines were 100% destemmed and naturally fermented in small 2-ton stainless steel tanks. A judicious combination of pump-overs and punch-downs proved successful in gently extracting the delicate tannins and complex aromas from the grape skins. Free-run and press fractions were kept separate and the wine was then aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which were new. It was during that time in our cellar that the wine spontaneously underwent its secondary fermentation, contributing to the wine delicate texture.

US BEST PINOT NOIRS 2019 – Wine & Spirits Magazine

“This estate wine is pungently aromatic, like a spice box filled with cinnamon and cut tobacco. Yet the flavors are mouthwatering and pure, the cherry fruit framed in dusty mineral tannins that provide tension and grip; for duck confit.” 93 pts

“This wine has a very impressive and concentrated feel with such poise and purity, whilst delivering concentrated dark cherries in abundance. There’s a lot of wine here, all delivered with such impressive balance and style. Drink or hold.” 94 pts | James Suckling

After over 8 months in the bottle, this little gem is ready for her grand entrance. On the nose the wine has notes of blackberry, black cherry and cinnamon. In the mouth, velvety tannins are complimented by the natural acidity from the grapes which carries the wine to a gratifying finish.

 2017 Vincenzo Pinot Noir

This is the very first release of a new Pinot Noir from our Dundee Hills estate Furioso Vineyard. Please welcome Vincenzo, named after Giorgio’s father and grandfather. The 2017 Vincenzo delivers aromas of plum, violet, and cinnamon spice which carry over to the palate. There, it will open up to more complex flavors of Bing cherry, herbal tea, and cedar. The wine is nicely structured, with a moderate acidity and a seamless integration. This wine will definitely improve with age and can be cellared for a couple of years to reach its peak, or decanted before serving if opened earlier. This wine will find its perfect companion in the shape of roasted duck in a peppercorn reduction.

“This has attractive purity and definition on both the nose and palate with red fruit that’s framed in light spices and rose-like perfume. The palate is neatly defined and delivers a fresh array of red cherries. Good poise here. Drink or hold.”  93 pts | James Suckling

This wine will continue to improve with age, and we encourage cellaring for a couple more years in order to allow this Vincenzo to reach its full potential. We recommend decanting before serving if opened in its youth. This wine will find its perfect companion in the pairing of roasted duck in a peppercorn reduction.

2018 La Linea Pinot Noir

For the 2018 vintage of La Linea we used an equal amount of Pommard and Dijon 115 clones from the old vines on our Dundee Hills estate Furioso Vineyard. That year, La Linea, usually more feminine in style than L’Altra, showed us its more tomboy side – aromas of violet and black cherry with hints of coffee bean and cigar box. This wine has plenty of refreshing acid with generous tannins, which will tame with time in the bottle and lead to a salivating finish.

The wine was aged for 10 months in one-year and two-year-old French oak barrels and bottled in August 2019.

2018 L’Altra Pinot Noir

Rain and cooler temperatures in spring slowed down the beginning of the 2018 season. Budbreak did not occur till mid-April but thanks to warmer temperatures in late spring, the vines caught up and flowering happened early June. As a whole, summer was warmer than average but with no heat spikes (ie: above 100 F) which would have caused the vines to shut down. Veraison (berries changing color) started on August 4th and led to a healthy and steady ripening of the clusters. Harvest was sunny and dry, and we even saw some cooler nights which helped to keep the natural acidity of the grapes. Altogether, 2018 had the potential to be one of the best quality harvests in the Willamette Valley. Our hearts, though, were with our fellow winegrowers in southern Oregon who suffered badly from the wildfires that year causing smoked-taint grapes.

“Very fresh aromas of roses and raspberries with fresh red flowers here, in a very floral style with plenty of sliced strawberries and wild cherries, too. The same fruit package follows in fresh, flavorful mode on the palate, sitting in tangy, juicy, fleshy and really energetic mode. Drink or hold.” 93pts | JamesSuckling.com

On the nose, this 60% Pommard, 40% Dijon clones Pinot displays fresh aromas of cranberry, crushed strawberries, and hints of violet. Bright and vibrant in the mouth, the finish brings an extra layer of dusty spice, while the fine, dry tannins will make your taste buds salivate. Graceful while stern, this newly released wine is a classic example of a Dundee Hills Pinot Noir.

 2018 Pietro Pinot Noir

Another exciting landmark for Furioso Vineyards! This 2018 Pietro is our very first Pinot Noir released from the Trovato Vineyard, our estate property in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. This Pinot Noir is a blend of nine different blocks of vines, representing as many different different clones – from the classic Pommard and Dijon clones to newly selected cultivars such as Mt. Eden and Swan. After having been handpicked at optimum maturity, the clusters were destemmed and naturally fermented. The wine was subsequently aged in French barrels (25% new) for 10 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The diversity of Pinot Noir clones used creates a complex wine which is stylistically different from the Pinot Noirs produced on our estate Furioso Vineyard in Dundee. Although less than ten miles apart, the Trovato terroir (an old marine sedimentary soil called Willakenzie) produces a more structured wine with predominantly cooking spice and dried herbs aromatics. As with all Furioso wines, this bottle was made to be cellared and will continue to evolve in the bottle for up to 10 years. To enjoy this wine young, it should be decanted before serving and would be a wonderful pairing for a New York hanger steak with Chanterelle mushrooms and a parsnip purée.

“A very sultry nose with savory, flinty notes, as well as crushed violets and attractive blueberries, red berries, and cherries. Some cocoa powder, too. The palate has a very complete, mouth-filling style with such attractive, vibrant fruit flavors in teh cherry and red-plum zone. Long, noble tannins. Drink or hold.” 94pts | JamesSuckling.com

 2018 Block 10 Pinot Noir

Our Block 10 at Trovato Vineyard outside Yamhill is a 2-acre vineyard block exclusively planted with the Pommard clone of Pinot Noir. One of the original clones used by the Oregon wine pioneers in the 70’s, Pommard was widely planted in Burgundy and known there for creating wines of distinction and excellence. This clone did not disappoint the winegrowers of the Willamette Valley, which is why it is still a classic clone used today, either as part of a blend or by itself; as is the case with this wine. At Furioso, we thought it would be interesting for our friends and Famiglia to enjoy this one-on-one experience, and have this unique opportunity to get intimate with a clone that started the international reputation of Oregon Pinot Noir.

“This has a brambly and spicy feel with plenty of toasty oak, overlaid across a very attractively ripe, fresh core of red and dark cherries. The palate has powerful fruit presence and handsome, sinewy tannins drive a long, impressive finish. Drink or hold.” 94pts | JamesSuckling.com

Dominique Mahé, Winemaker:

With the very first release of our Block 10, we are delivering a gutsy Pinot Noir draped in a deep velvet color. The nose is very lifted with rich notes of dark cherries, mocha, dry herbs, and hints of cinnamon. In the mouth, the wine exhibits a firm structure framed by a juicy acidity. This Pinot Noir has great aging potential and will benefit from being decanted in its youth. We recommend pairing this wine with a rich dish like a rib-eye steak with a creamy peppercorn sauce and roasted fingerlings potatoes.

2019 Rosé of Pinot Noir

“If ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”. We believe that in past years we nailed the perfect recipe for our Furioso Rosé: 100% Pinot Noir grapes, picked early to offer a juicy acidity. The grapes are quickly whole-cluster pressed and the juice is barrel fermented in neutral French oak. Some “saignée” wine (drained from our red fermenters at a judicious time) is later added to the pressed fraction to deliver this beautifully colored, dry but fruity-floral Rosé.

Made 100% from the Pinot Noir grapes at our Yamhill-Carlton AVA estate Trovato Vineyard, our 2019 Rosé helped you survive this summer and is ready to be the perfect Holiday Dinner wine with your “Covid Bubble” family and friends. The wine shows aromas of raspberry and hibiscus and pink grapefruit. In mouth, the tart flavors are balanced by a delicate texture from the short barrel aging in neutral French oak. This juicy Rosé can be the perfect traditional turkey dinner wine – the delicateness of the wine will not overwhelm your bird, and the nice acidity will be the perfect foil to the richness we all deserve this holiday after surviving 2020. Cheers!

 2019 Tocai Friulano

Only our second release of estate-grown Tocai Friulano! The fruit is from our estate Trovato Vineyard outside the small hamlet of Yamhill in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where less than an acre is planted with this unique Italian white varietal. Originating in the southwest of France where it is known as Sauvignonasse or Sauvignon Vert, it eventually found its perfect home in the northeast of Italy. There, its full name became Tocai Friulano, which explains why it is often confused with the sweet Tokay (or Tokaji) from Hungry; so, spoiler alert, our 2019 Tocai Friulano is bone dry!

Its sleek acidity and brightness will be a perfect pairing for an ocean sunset…even if it is on your flat screen TV.

2018 Piano Piano Chardonnay

“Piano Piano” is a term that instructs musicians to play “softly softly”. It’s also the beginning of an Italian saying Giorgio heard often from his Mamma Anna when Giorgio was … rambunctious … as a child. She would say, “Giorgio! Piano, piano. Chi va piano va sano e va lontano.” Giorgio! Slowly, slowly, he who goes slow and steady lives a long life. Produced with Burgundy in mind, this wine reflects the lower alcohol, higher acidity style appreciated by both foodies and Francophiles, alike.

Dominique Mahé, our Winemaker:

I believe that one of the best Furioso wines I have ever made was our 2015 Chardonnay. I really dig those more mature and complex aromatics that Chardonnay gets when it is aged on fine lees for an extended period of time. For those of you lucky enough to know what I am talking about, here comes our 2018 Piano Piano Chardonnay. Made from our very own estate grapes on our new vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton (Trovato), this wine slowly (“piano” in Italian) evolved for 17 months in two neutral barriques. This small production (55 cases) will delight Chardonnay aficionados, or may open your mind to what else Chardonnay can be.

2018 Chardonnay – Trovato Vineyard

Finally! This 2018 vintage is our very first estate Chardonnay! Picked early to preserve a zesty acidity, the wine was naturally fermented in neutral French oak and aged in these same barriques for over ten months before bottling. On the nose, the wine is very expressive and shows bright stone fruit with notes of lilac and pear. On the palate, the taste is supple and polished, offering an elegant structure that leads to a clean finish teeming with minerals and wet stone-like flavors.

 2017 Spirito Brut Rosé

We are very excited to release to our very first sparkling! This Brut Rosé from the 2017 vintage is 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, from two vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Both still wines were barrel fermented before the liqueur de tirage was added, and the bottles rested for 19 months on the yeast, to produce a true Méthode Champenoise sparkling wine.

23 months in tirage, our second disgorgement took place on January 21st. Look out for future releases of this méthod Champenoise sparkling wine so you can taste for yourself how it will evolve with more extended lees contact.
